It’s that time of year when we say goodbye to some of our young people as they head off to university or college. Perhaps, it’s their first time away or maybe they’re heading back for another year or that all important final year.

Pray for them

More than any other years, these years can influence the course of a life.  Some thrive on the opportunity to be away from home and some find it a challenge. I guess that it goes without saying but I’ll say it anyway… pray for them and get others to pray for them as well.

Encourage them to connect

Whether you’re a parent, youth leader or a church leader, I’m sure that you’ll be praying that your young people will find a new spiritual home and friends that will take them forward in their faith.

There are so many great organisations who look to connect with students while away and who live out their faith and “do church” with passion and relevance – UCCFFusionFestive to name a few – and there are some great churches in our university towns. Life as a Christian at Uni & College can be way different to church life at home but in a really good way so encourage your young person to connect and try it out.

Keep in touch

More than ever, we can keep in touch through the likes of Facebook, Twitter, Skype, etc. Don’t overdo it but don’t cut all contact altogether either. There's nothing like that gift or card from home that reminds your students that you love them and that God loves them –have a look at this collection.
